Learning Goal: I’m working on a data analytics question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn. Please respond to the following in a substantive post (3–4 paragraphs):What is your understanding of big data? How do big data and business intelligence contribute to decision-making?
The function of business analytics plays a vital role in delivering the necessary information to the constituent decision-makers. How is the business intelligence analytics information shared in a large global enterprise? What are the key metrics included and supported by business intelligence?
Be sure to respond to at least one of your classmates’ posts.
Post from Jacob that you have to replyBig data falls under the vast umbrella of sophisticated, complex, intricate, or massive information that is extremely fast and fails to be processed at normal or traditional methods and must be categorized based on volume, velocity, and the variety of data. Volume focuses on how organizations collect vast amounts of data using Internet of Things (IoT) devices from multiple sources to gather images, audio, video, or media that would be too expensive to store and many businesses consider cloud storage for lower costs. Streaming has exponentially increased the velocity of growth of IoT devices flowing media at fast speeds that must be handled to deal with these torrents in real time using RFID tags, smart meters, and sensors to continually drive this velocity and demand (Hartung, 2018). As big data comes in all shapes and sizes, variety of this information can be structured in through numeric data in databases of text documents, emails, audios, videos, media, or financial transactions that occur in vast volumes. Business intelligence relies heavily on big data to reveal patterns, trends, and direct associations of products, goods, or offerings and how they relate to human interactions and behaviors and how analytics makes this transparent. Amazon for example is a major leader in taking big data and conforming it into successful decision making choices with advanced intelligence using 2.5 quintillion bytes of data a day. Collecting customers history, wishlists, views, purchases, and advertising algorithms allow this big data to be used in order to enhance customer experience and increase profits dramatically with Return on Investment (ROI) on data collection. As a large global enterprise, Amazon built a Data Driven Decision Making (DDDM) culture that utilizes variable metrics in overall costs, marketing and sales, growth-related, financial analytics, and customer decisions in order to increase customer engagement and retention and overall profits (Hartung, 2018). Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the companies cloud service that provides a multitude of analytics based on information collected to realize these metrics in order to reduce costs and focus efforts in the right areas to grow profits and increase outreach for retention and new user engagement.Reference:Hartung, T.
